Happy 4th of July!

Carolina Beach Trip
July 1 - July 4, 2011

Carolina Beach is located on the Atlantic Coast of Southeastern North Carolina, 15 miles from the historic city of Wilmington, NC. It's approximately 2.5 hours South, South-East of Raleigh, NC. This was our first trip to Carolina Beach. We typically go to Wilmington, specifically Wrightsville Beach.

Unfortunately, Friday we had to work! The rest of the crew had already set sail down to Carolina Beach early in the morning. We left the house in the afternoon to arrive at a decent hour for dinner. We went to a nice little restaurant called Havana (seafood cuisine) and sat outside. Afterwords, we walked to the Carolina Beach Boardwalk to get some tasty fresh donuts at Britts Donuts. Started by the Britts and Wrights in 1939, the donut shop has long been the cornerstone of the Boardwalk area. I will say my favorite donut is a cake donut with chocolate icing, however these plain glazed donuts were pretty tasty.

Saturday morning Joe and I woke up before the sunrise to take a walk on the beach. I asked Joe "Have you ever gotten up to see the sun rise?", Joe "no", Amanda "me either". We are usually up very early, but never to go sit and watch the sun rise. On this morning we didn't get to see the sunrise over the water, but more or less in the clouds. It was still beautiful!

During our walk back to the house a golf cart drove by that said 'Sea Turtle Patrol'. Joe said "I found the perfect job for you!", he said "you love the beach... and saving turtles". So true! Everyone seems to make fun of me because I will go out of my way to save a turtle. Yes, I will stop on a 4 lane busy trafficked road to save a turtle. They are pretty helpless and just trying to get to the other side.

For the remainder of the day we spent out time at the beach. The boys spent 95% of their time playing boccee ball and the girls gabbed and read. Our evening ended with a game of Scattergories.

Joe and I woke up early once again to see if we could see a better sunrise. Today was just like the day before, but there were a lot more pelicans diving into the ocean. That was fun to watch.

Celeste, Mike, Tom (Mike's roommate), Mallory and Kyle joined us around lunch time to play at the beach for the day.

Back to Raleigh we go! We woke up quite early to get back home. I'm a sucker for the kitties and feel bad leaving them at home alone for so long. One of my good friends Ashley M. is our usual kitty sitter. She loves cats so that makes me happy to have her watch them. =)

Tonight is calling for bad storms, which is why I'm writing this post at 7:21pm on the 4th of July. It is currently pouring down rain... I assume the fireworks are going to be cancelled due to the inclement weather. Oh well I guess that means an early bed time for us and the kitties. =)
