The cloche hat is a fitted, bell-shaped hat for women that was invented in 1908 and became popular in the 1920's until about 1933. Cloche hats were usually made of felt so that they conformed to the head, and were typically designed to be worn low on the forehead, with the wearer's eyes only slightly below the brim. In later years, a summer cloche might be made from sisal or straw and for evening wear, cocktail parties, dancing, wedding events it would be made of beads or lace.
In the late 1980's, the cloche was reinvented with a buttoned brim. Cloche hats became popular by many designers in the Fall of 2007. Today they are still very popular.

I have a straw one that I wear on the beach sometimes. It doesn't blow away! Love these hats!
