Last October was the first time I had ever been to a pick-your-own farm where you pick the fruit straight from the source. So I vowed that we would have to do this more often. I mean is there anything more delicious than fresh fruit picked straight off the branch? i think not.
The United States has the largest strawberry production in the world and North Carolina ranks as third. So I'm sure you can guess what we went and picked this past weekend. You got it, strawberries! We went to a PYO fruit farm, right when it opened at 1pm. It was pretty warm for April, sunny and 80. I made the bad decision of wearing jeans as I got hot rather quickly. It was just nice to be outside and smell those sweet, delectable strawberries in the air.
Prior to picking we discussed what we would make with all of these strawberries. Strawberry cobbler, strawberry jelly, strawberry shortcake, chocolate covered strawberries, strawberry pie, strawberry cheesecakes, at this point I had to stop myself knowing that there was no way we would be able to make all of these things as we would probably eat half of the strawberries with breakfast every morning with a little taste of sugar.
