san diego - part ii

Our second day in San Diego, we started at the southern portion of Point Loma's Peninsula.

Cabrillo National Monument

In 1542 Juan Rodriquez Cabrillo was the first European to set foot on what is now the West Coast of the USA.

The need for this photo caused me to bleed my own blood.  I accidentally 'dropped' the neck of my tripod on my hand and squashed the skin between it.  Of course it didn't feel good and calmly and casually looked at Joe and was like can you please come help me as my hands were full of stuff...  So this photo was taken with a bloody stump of a hand until I could get a bandaid.  Joe said, you didn't get blood on my shirt did you?  Important things Joe, important things...

Joe wanted to have one more adventure for the day and didn't tell me where we were going, only that we were going to have a hike somewhere.  We ended up at Lake Poway recreational area.  I knew we were hiking somewhere, but promised a um-em-hem... 2 mile hike or so?  We arrived at the destination with one a heat advisory and then two reading that it was a 7+ mile hike round trip to some potato chip rock I was like ummmmmmm ugh.  We made it about 3 miles up and I think both of us were over it.  It just had been a long-long day of adventuring and I was not wearing the right shoes for that long of a hike, plus it was hot with no reprieve from the sun such as a tree.

The photos of Lake Poway start at the top of the 'mountains' at the overlook when I decided I should probably stop being sour and take my camera out.

Later that night I ended up having a sun rash.  I didn't even know that was such a thing until my dermatologist appointment 2-3 weeks after told me what it may have been.  In my head I thought maybe it was a medication reaction or sun poisoning, but I was wearing SPF 50 and had zero sun burn or anything....  Apparently this Florida girls skin does not like the sun anymore.

For dinner we headed over to Hodad's in downtown San Diego, which was a burger joint.  Joe felt as though he might get tetanus while eating there.  Every person was tatted, pierced and they were playing rock / metal music such as Deftones (one of my favorite bands in my college years), Audioslave, etc.  I could understand what he meant, but it was totally worth it.
